We are whisking around France by train and needed a day tour from Amboise (or Tours) to some of the headliner chateaux.
We took the Rick Steves recommendation and booked ahead with Acco-Dispo Tours. We spent a great day with Pascal in a comfy 8 passenger minivan.
Pascal is charming, provides great background info on the chateaux, and is a safe driver. His English is excellent. We visited Chenonceau, Cheverny, and Chambord. A great day!
I was hoping to take to the chateau tour with Acco-Dispo in September 2019, but they notified me when I was in Tours that they wouldn’t be running the tour that next morning because they needed more participants. I’m glad you were able to go and have a wonderful experience!
I was able to quickly book a tour with A La Francaise. The second option didn’t go to all of the big names, but a couple from Ireland & I went to see the outstanding gardens at Villandry. Our guide walked us through the chateau to see the rooms and see the garden views. Afterwards, she provided a relaxing picnic on the grounds of Chateau L'Iselette. This half-day tour turned out to be very relaxing, and I really enjoyed the chance to relax in the country setting and hear much more about living in France from our young guide. Villandry had been my top priority, and we had plenty of time there to enjoy the setting, arriving before it was crowded. I had seen the other chateaus several years previously, so it all turned out well!
We used Acco-Dispo tours as well and had Pascal as a driver. We were very happy with our day. We were there just last fall - travel was still light and so we were the only people on the tour and they did indeed run it, so I was happy!
Jean, they are now running tours for a minimum of 2 people. In our case, we had our 2 and another pair of ladies. Glad you enjoyed your tour!
I'm so glad I read this thread We were looking for a tour to Chambord, and this company/tour looks perfect! I put in my request and hope they have space.
