Two weeks ago we did the Culinary Backstreets "2 markets 2 continents" food tour in Istanbul. We would highly recommend this company/tour. This is truly one of the best food tours and well worth the cost. The tour is 6.5 hours of sampling a broad selection of foods and drinks on two continents (ferry tickets included). Everything from tiny tea shops, street food carts, back street cafes, and upscale sweet shops. Our guide, Esin, added so much to the overall experience. She is very knowledgeable of the traditional food selections as well as the various neighborhoods history. All along the route Esin was introducing us to many shop owners and telling how many generations their families had done business at that location, which made the tour very personal. Don't miss this when traveling to Istanbul and be sure to go hungry.
