Incredible Family Tour (Scotland)

Hello, The RS travel forums were instrumental in planning our family trip last summer. After much searching on the forums for tour guides, I found Inverness Tours. The post was pre, pre-covid! They were exactly what I wanted and we had a fantastic experience. Below is my review.

My family’s tour with Ian of Inverness tours was a highlight of our UK trip. We had an all-around incredible experience touring the Scottish Highlands. My husband, three children (ages 9-14 years) and I took a day trip to Isle of Skye and then a customized point-to-point trip from Inverness to Edinburgh with Ian as our guide and driver. Our time together was engaging and educational. We especially appreciated the ability to relax, listen and learn, while watching the beautiful views go by. Ian was a wonderful travel guide/companion- he was incredibly knowledgeable, maintained a comfortable pace yet kept us moving, funny and kind, and easygoing and patient (a must with children/teens and sleep-deprived parents due to flight cancellations!). He kept us, and most importantly our children, interested with tales of Scottish mythology, history, culture as well as several gory stories (the kids’ request). Although Outlander inspired out trip to Scotland, it wasn’t the focus, but once Ian found out that we were fans, he weaved in relevant information. Ian created a little family quiz competition to reinforce what we had seen and learned, so there was lots of learning and FUN. As a bonus, he understood when the kids needed a break and wasn’t upset when attention waned. The children still talk about Ian, his many stories, and our amazing experience seeing Scotland. Finally, Hugh was very helpful as I narrowed down our must-sees and we prepared a personalized itinerary. I HIGHLY recommend Ian and Inverness Tours. I look forward to touring with them again!

Glad you had a good time and made it home safely. I think traveling with children preps them for adulthood in ways not otherwise available. I know that was true for my family when my folks were stationed in Europe in the 50s and they dragged us everywhere.
