Ideas for places to go on a day trip

Hey guys,

I would love to go for a day out somewhere either in the UK or somewhere else in the EU within a few hours flight or even train. Thanks guys.

The best thing for you to do is to play around with Skyscanner.net.

See for yourself where the low-cost flights go and decide if there's a destination that works - flights-wise, time-wise and price-wise for you.

Then come back and ask:

"I'll have "X" hours in "Y" (i.e. Barcelona), any suggestions of things to see?", or

"What's the best way to get from the airport to "Y" and back?"

You didn't mention transportation or how long you will have in one location, so here are several variations. From London...a bus tour that goes to Stratford Upon Avon (Shakespeare's home), Oxford and the Cotswolds leaves near Victoria Station around 8 AM every morning; another one goes to Cambridge; take a boat down the Thames to Greenwich and the Royal Naval College, or the train to Bath and Stonehenge. From Paris.... take the train to Monet's home and garden at Giverny and also Rouen. Two days RT by train in that same direction will also get you Normandy and the D-Day beaches. From Florence... Siena and Lucca by car, and although it is a long day take the train to the Cinque Terre, if only to go to Vernazza. Seen from the hiking trail above it is well worth the trip. If you can make it to Provence, stay in St. Remy de Provence and you can take easy day trips to Avignon, Aix en Provence, Arles, Nimes, the Pont du Gard, the hilltowns of the Luberon region and/or a gorgeous town we discovered on the Med called Cassis. All of these are less than 90 minutes by car from St. Remy, a charming little town in itself, and driving in France is VERY easy. You can fly into Marseille and get to St. Remy in just over an hour by car. By the way, you can also drive to the places I mentioned in England with a little patience. I drove in Scotland last year and after a few hours it was easy. Any time you can rent a car it opens up possibilities that are not there with public transportation. Hope this is helpful. Enjoy.

Hog,

any chance of a mite's worth of background info? From where might be a good start...

I'd plump for the Costa Brava.
