Home Base Normandy Beach Tours

We will be leaving Paris in August for a multi-day visit to Normandy sights and including Mont St Michel and Bayeux Tapestry. We will arrive by train from Paris. No car. Would like to have a base town to visit all the sights using a tour guide and/ or buses. What town(s) is the most central and how much time shall I plan?

Thank you.

We stayed in the beautiful town of Honfleur. It has been some years but worth looking into, we visited the whole area via Honfluer.

Check in the Rick Steves guide book for van tours of the beaches, cemetery and St. Mere Eglise.
The recommendations are to stay in Bayeux where the van tours start. We enjoyed staying near this town a few years ago and the all day tour was excellent.

I second Bayeux. We rented a car but there were several day tours that left from downtown Bayeux. We stayed at Hotel Churchill and they have a tour to Mont St. Michele that leaves from their parking lot.

Without a rental car, Bayeux is the best starting point for meeting up with the guided tours.
Suggest you look at the various guides/companies and make some reservations for your tours.

There are many to choose from. Each with their own style I'm sure you won't be disappointed with your choice.
We did 2 tours with Dale Booth when he was a part of Battlebus tours. He now operates his own company and
offers lodging in his guest house.

Overlord Tours is popular, too.

We stayed at Hotel d'Argouges in the annex. It was safe, clean, and quiet.

Stayed in Bayeux. If you can take winding stone stairs, highly recommend Manoir St. Victoire. There is one ground floor room. Wonderful hosts and breakfasts, very historic (small) tower building with comfortable rooms with tiny "kitchenettes." Took an Overlord Tour with Brigette. It was wonderful. The Bayeux tapestry is right there. There is a very interesting museum of art and local history and a small lace shop keeping the long tradition of lacemaking in Normandy alive with lovely pieces for sale.

Pls let me know about your trip to Normandy when you get back!
I'd like to surprise my husband with a trip to Normandy.
I'm in USA. Where would be the best place to arrive before going to Normandy? If we get in Paris, what the next step. Please help me with my planning. Email me: yardguilty@gmail.com
