Granada Muslim quarter private tour

I'd be interested in thoughts about hiring a guide for a private tour (just 2 of us) for the Muslim quarter in Granada. The guide we're interested in hiring for a 1/2 day Alhambra tour has a full day that adds tapas lunch followed by 3 hours in the Muslim quarter. If anyone has first hand experience with visiting the Muslim quarter, I'd appreciate thoughts/advice

For some background, we have only very rarely done any tours. We've done the free ones with Greeters International 3 times. Done the occasional tour that was required to see a stately house or castle or brewery. And we hired a guide for the Forum/Colosseum which was totally worth the cost.

I'm feeling mixed about if a paid tour of the Muslim quarter is worth it. Rick's walk is only a 30 minute with a handful of sites, I suspect a local guide would fill in a lot of history etc.

Read a few relevant articles on wikipedia as a start and see if the area interests you a lot.

In addition to the obvious keywords, let me suggest you also check out Andalucismo as a cultural/academic movement of the late 20th century, and that you check the webpages of the University to see what areas of history and sociology they are strong in.

"Convivencia" was complicated everywhere, but especially so in Granada.

The classic general history is by Helen Rodgers:

There is a good thumbnail review of Rodgers's book by a UC Davis history prof here:

She thinks it's just the thing for a curious traveler to Granada:

"Well written and engaging, City of Illusions will be of interest to those seeking a broad introduction to Granada and its many pasts."

and that UCD prof has published several more specialised books about Granada:
