I recently needed a driver/guide for doing some family history research in Cumbria, northern Lancashire and the east coast of Yorkshire. I also wanted to see the lake district and some of the Yorkshire dales while I was there. I contacted Ron Smith, a Blue Badge driver/ guide from Appleby-in-Westmoreland and found the ideal guide for my purpose. A retired Cumbrian police officer with a great sense of humour he knows the area well in terms of its long and varied history and its geography and built a bespoke tour around my particular interests as well as the family research I wanted to do.
