I will be in Athens for a couple of nights after the 14 day trip. Any recommendations of day trips not covered in the tour? Looking at viatour but not sure how to plan these two days. Sept 21-22 full days. Any good ideas would be appreciated. I thought about santorinni but comments on forums say it's just too full of tourists to be enjoyed. Suggestions? Is it reasonable to go on a one day trip to santorini? Any recommendations on how?

Santorini is simply gorgeous. Yes there are crowds but there are always crowds think Venice.
It does not mean to me it cannot be enjoyed. I was there2 yrs ago approached from the sea then spent the day. It was beautiful.

The crowds of Santorini get a lot better after August. I’d say your dates are the perfect time to go.

We are going on the RS Greece tour from 9/22-10/5. We are arriving on 9/20 to give ourselves more time in Athens before the tour. After the tour we are heading to Naxos for 3 nights and then Santorini for 2 nights (staying in Firostefani which I believe is a bit less crowded than Fira or Oia even in the busiest months) before flying back to Athens the night before we fly home. I can't wait! Hope you have a wonderful trip!

cindy Enjoy your time in Naxos. I was there June 2018 and really liked it.Instead of main tourist area of Santorini I chose nearby PERISSA with black sand beach and lots of friendly cafes on the water.
