Chania tours

I will be in Chania for 8 days in July by myself.

I will not have a vehicle to drive around, and would like to see various areas around Chania.

Could someone recommend some enjoyable day tours that they have been on?

Thanks!

Last year we stayed in Chania for a few days and took an all-day Trip Advisor Tour up into the White Mountains area. I can't remember the exact name of the tour, but we saw a lot of country. We went to a nice little village that saw a lot of partisan fighting in WWII and visited their small museul, stopped at a local place that made cheese, tasted some fabulous local honey and pastries, ate lunch at a traditional Cretan restaurant located on a rustic farm up in the hills, and tasted wine an old and very cool winery. The guide was George, a young guy who spoke fluent English. He was a very interesting guy who gave us a lot of insight on local history and culture. The tour was not cheap but we really enjoyed it.

Trip Advisor has some other tours around the island but we wanted some down time as well.

Chania is a nice town with a small beach right in the city. We also went over to Heraklion to see the Knossos Palace and museum, both were great. You can take a bus over there, but it's not a short ride. We hired a local driver and he was OK.

Chania is beautiful itself, but I recommend a trip to Milia, a village with no electricity supply (less daunting than it sounds), as well as to the beaches of Elafonisi and Balos, both incredibly beautiful!
