Caught ferry to Caen, then Normandy beach tour in July

My husband and I booked a Brittany Ferry overnight with a cabin from Portsmouth to Caen. We wanted to see the Normandy coast from the water and with a clear sky in the morning it did not disappoint. It was about the cost of a hotel room AND got us where we needed to be. Tips: if you get the overnight ferry, get dinner before you go, get to your cabin, settle in for some shut-eye, because the morning comes quickly---you have to vacate the cabin an hour in advance of deporting. We did not use the car ferry service, so can't comment on the logistics.....
We prebooked a private tour to see normandy beaches at the suggestion of friends. So glad we made this investment. We tried to book in March using suggestions from rick Steve's and tripadvisor but several were already booked up (over 5 months in advance). We finally settled on Normandy-44 tours. Our guide Magali Coulon was excellent. Her price was a little less than other tours; I think because this is a new business. She is not, however, new to guiding tours of Normandy! Her previous experience with another tour company has served her well. Magali was prepared with terrific, understandable maps and other tools to help us appreciate the magnitude of the operation. Having a guide really let us make the most of a single day---we could not possibly have gotten such a great educational, interesting, and emotional experience---. Magali picked us up in Caen at the hotel where we met up with our daughter. After sharing a coffee we were on our way in normandy-44s van. We had all our luggage in the back since we were going to rent a car at the end of the day. I would love to go back and perhaps spend two days visiting the beaches- next time. I'd also make sure to book again with Magali.

Your report did not go unnoticed. I am making notes as I want to see what my father who was behind the scenes helped prepare for.

Thank you.
Au revoir
