I just returned from Europe and one of my best experiences was a full day Versailles bike tour with Bike About Tours. They are a smaller company, but similar in price (a bit cheaper, actually) to the much larger company Fat Tire Tours. On my tour there were 9 people in the group plus our guide. Touring by bike allows you to see much more of the Versailles gardens than you would be able to see walking. Our tour started with a visit to the Versailles market where we picked up picnic supplies with good advice from our guide. In the morning we rode to the far end of the gardens past the Petit Trianon and Grand Trianon and then hopped off our bikes for a walking tour of Marie Antoinette's hamlet. This was the best part of Versailles and hard to get to without a bike (it's well over a mile from the main palace) and a guide (the route through the gardens to the hamlet was not obvious). We had our picnic lunch next to the grand canal then cycled through the gardens back to the front of the main palace. We parted ways with our guide (and our bikes) prior to touring the palace, though our guide gave us plenty of advice and clear instructions on how to catch the train home. Overall, it was a great tour and I would highly recommend it.
