We just returned from our South Italy Tour. While in Maiori, we hired Elio Messi from Francesco del Pizzo for the day. What a magnificent day. Elio knew how to get us around the crowds and provided great recommendations with what to see. We started in Amalfi and toured the area before the crowds arrived. We then went to Ravello which is a do not miss if you are on the Amalfi coast. We were then taken to a remote location in the mountains where we experienced a tremendous lunch at Le Querce. We finished the day with a stop in the small fishing village of Cetara. Again, Elio was magnificent and we would highly recommend him.
When we were in Sorrento, we hired Giovanna Donadio for a half-day trip to Capri. Giovanna was also tremendous. She met us at the port in Sorrento. We took the ferry to Capri where she had a taxi waiting on us. We went to AnaCapri where we road the lift to the top of the mountain. The views were incredible and we were up there with very few people. On the way down, the crowds started to arrive. When we reached the base of the lift, the taxi was waiting on us and we were taken to Capri. Giovanna really knew the area. She was able to show us many different areas, taking side streets to avoid the crowds. After our walking tour she suggested a great spot for lunch and then she departed. She had made arrangements for the taxi to take us to the dock where she had made arrangements for a two hour boat tour of Capri. The tour around the island was breathtaking. The color of the water was just unimaginable. It was a beautiful ride. Giovanna is listed on the Rick Steves site and we would agree, she is great and well worth the cost for the time that we spent with her.
