Best Of Rome Tour Rome

Hi folks,
Am in need of some advice. My wife and I will be on the Best of Rome tour in early June. She has low vision to brain tumor surgeries and glaucoma but is not blind. We did the Best of London tour with no major issues but I was wondering, from veterans of this tour about anything we may need to keep in mind as we go through the city. (Rough pavement, blind intersections, cobblestone etc.) Any suggestions would be appreciated. We are looking forward to this bucket list trip!

We did this tour a few years ago and yes to all of the above. Have you told The RS people about your wife? I am sure they can give insight. Rome has the 7 hills and a lot of cobblestone. We loved the tour.

Lots of walking and lots of cobblestone. It might be a case of choosing to take a taxi sometimes and meeting the group at the destination rather than the walk there.

You might want to repost your question in the Rick Steves Tours category, rather than Day Tours to get more input. But having done tour recently, one of the things your wife may have issues with is using the metro and buses. Our guide had us using these since our hotel was near the Colosseum when we went to sights like Vatican City. They are sometimes very crowded and not much time to get on and off. I felt intimidated since we don’t use buses or subways on a daily basis and it was hard to stay right by my husband so we didn’t get separated. The really crowded areas like Trevi Fountain and inside the Vatican Museum may be hard for her to navigate. There is lots of uneven pavement when walking but I think the curbs were usually low. But taxis are available everywhere and usually quite reasonable ( 10-15 Euros)
Where there any issues in London?

Thanks folks for your replies. I think we are going to do fine. The Steves Tour buddy system does help and my wife is not afraid of a challenge. Looking forward to getting to Rome later this week. God bless you all and have a great summer.
