Best Hotel in Lake Orta or SanGiulio?

Dear Forum Travelers,

We're in Lake Orta for 2 nts following the Apr '25 Sicily Tour and would like to transport ourselves (train or rental car) to
Bolzano for 4days before returning stateside via MXP. Any recommendations on 4-5 star quiet accommodations in Lake Orta
or San Giulo? And does it seem reasonable in a 4 day period to travel Lake Orta to Bolzano and back to Milan, MXP? We've researched drive times and routes but unclear about ease or lack of using trains. So far it appears to be 3 trains one way----
Lake Orta to Bolzano. Thanks for your thoughts and suggestions.

As far as hotels in Lake Orta, we stayed at La Bussola and did not have a good experience. The front desk staff were rude to us and the room did not have the promised amenities.

Any specific reason for Lake Orta? We stayed there at the end of the RS Village Italy tour and found it underwhelming. Really nothing to do in the town, and a pretty but rather small lake.

After our tour we traveled to Stresa on Lake Maggiore. Beautiful lake that reaches into Switzerland. More to see and do (multiple islands to explore by ferry) and a wider selection of hotels and restaurants. Also it’s super easy to travel by bus from Stresa directly to MPX.

There are a lot of old hotels (Stresa was a big vacation town in the Downton Abbey era) but we stayed at La Luna Nel Porto, which was wonderful. We had a suite with a balcony overlooking the lake; breakfast was excellent.

You want to go from Milan to Lake Orta to Bolzano and back to Milan in four days? By train?

You'll spend most of your time on trains rather than seeing these places.

In April, in the Dolomites, you could still have snow on the ground. I went to Bolzano in May a few years ago and we encountered snow on the way.

My suggestion is visit the Lake region--Orta and Maggiore--and leave Bolzano and the Dolomites for another visit. Orta is not far from Stresa.

I do not recommend Lake Orta either, not much to it. Small lake, boring. We spent a lot of our time driving down to Lake Maggiore which we all preferred.

In my opinion, the answer to your question is no. It would take you most of the day to get there and another day to get back to Milan. I thought Lake Orta town and lake small but lovely.
