Hi,
Will be in Amsterdam in June. Looking for suggestions for best walking tour companies. Any tours available in Spanish, would be helpful. My husband and I are 'history' buffs so appreciated tours that expand upon the history of the area.
We used https://freewalkingtoursamsterdam.com/?utm_source=GMBlisting&utm_medium=organic but for the classic tour. They do offer a red light tour. Another couple on our tour used them for the food tour the night before and raved about that, FWIW.
Worth mention, Free Walking Tours no longer offers a tour of the RLD:
https://freewalkingtoursamsterdam.com/free-red-light-district-tour-amsterdam/
The city of Amsterdam has banned tours thru the RLD. The women working in the RLD are real life human beings, not tourist attractions to be gawked at and made fun off by huge groups of drunk men. Please mind that I’m not saying that was your intention, but sadly that was what happened often during these walking tours thru the RLD. That’s the actual reason these tours are now banned.
I believe Rick Steves has an audio tour which focuses on the architecture and history of the RLD.
Well disregard that then;)
hey hey borregoletty
several years ago 4 of us good friends stayed in an apartment on prinsengracht canal, with houseboats across street, canal cruises and residents enjoying themselves, close by trams to get wherever, roaming the canals window shopping, cheese tasting shops, tulip museum, sat at outside bar for a glass of wine/beer/jenever "dutch gin" and appetizers.
couple years after we stayed on a houseboat in the jordaan area, more roaming around. just be very careful with bikes bikes bikes!!
we all have our own opinions of what to see and do, here's some of my options. we had seen enough museums/churches so we went on adventures looking for quirky/fun things to see and do.

our crazy friend traveling with us never been to europe was so determined to go into a coffee shop. it was so funny, like him in a "candy store!!", we all in our early 60's and raised in the hippie era. LOL bought a joint, brought back to apartment that had all the instruments for smoking. our great landlord came down to show us. what happens in amsterdam stays in amsterdam. after the shop went thru chinatown and red light district canal, an absolutely gorgeous place during the daytime.
found a pedicab to take us to the district that was so crowded in the evening, ended up in a bar with live music with all us patrons singing "sweet caroline" was so much fun. we've been dear friends for 20+ years

one other thing, we found an evening one hour canal cruise which was so nice to sit, relax, have a glass of wine and see the beauty of all the lights on.
we also did 2 private tours with us four sharing costs. one to country side (zaanse schans, edam, marken, volendam). windmills, dutch clogs being made, old fishing village, cheese factory. touristy but that's us
3 hour canal salon boat tour with appetizers and alcohol and great captain.

many of the canal boats passing by apartment on the canal were some crazy & tipsy people having a great time, yelling, dancing, loud music, something we didn't want

The classic walking tour was about 2 hours and they split us into two groups since there were 15 signed up. Our group had 7 total, which was a nice size. I appreciated that they did this.
