2 "Must" Tours When Visiting Florence!

The food tour provided by "Dine Around Florence" is excellent. You'll walk to the Oltrarno on the other side of the river from central Florence, and visit an enoteca with wines that are more than 50 years old. While you won't get to sample these, a wonderful sampling of Chianti Classico and Brunello are served with a light antipasto of duck pate, pecorino cheese, olives, and other treats. You'll continue walking to a cafe where you will be served more delicious red wines along with a hearty sampling of local proscuitto and salamis paired with pecorino and parmesan cheeses. Later, your guide (in this case it was Greta), will take you to a neighborhood gelateria for some of the best dessert you'll have while you're in the city.

And for a marvelous day tour of the Tuscan countryside, you must try "Florencetown Tours." Our marvelous guide, Paola B., drove us to two wineries in Montalcino, the heart of Brunello wine making. The first, owned by Salvador Ferragamo's youngest son, is a large property with an 18-hole golf course and 5-star resort hotel. The winery offers several varieties of Chianti and Brunello. It also is the home to their "Library," where for 10,000 Euros you can store your wine with the bonus of 2,500 Euros worth of their wine. George Clooney and his wife, Amal, are members. The other winery, Podere Le Ripi, is owned by the Illy family of coffee producer and espresso machine fame. It is situated atop a hill overlooking an expansive valley evocative of every photo you've ever seen of Tuscany. Marvelous wine served with fresh-made pasta, salad, biscotti and coffee for dessert. The drive finishes in the charming town of Pienza where you can walk around for about half an hour. Amazing views of the countryside. I would recommend this tour to anyone!
