What towns in the immediate area other than Mikulov should be on our list? We'd like to do at least one wine-tasting and interesting in wandering, taking photos, and eating.

Lednice, Valtice, Pavlov. Wine tasting: http://www.salonvin.cz . You can switch it to English. There is a nice hike on Palava hills from Mikulov to Pavlov. You can rent a bicycle and go from Valtice to Lednice. There is a lot of information about this area in Rick Steves book: Prague & the Czech Republic.
