Has anyone visited Melnik? Impressions? Favorite parts of your visit? Advice?
I’m intrigued by the idea of a day trip there from Prague the first week in June. (This is a friends trip, and there will be four of us.) I’m particularly interested in a wine-tasting at the Chateau, and it looks like a great little town to explore for a few hours.
By the way, we’d do this independently, traveling by bus.
I was last there a couple years ago and did a tour of the Chateau, it is quite a small town and the old part with the Chateau is on a fairly steep hill . I had hoped to do the tour with the wine tasting but it was not available the day I went, but very interesting place and you can try the wines in the cafe in the Chateau, really lovely place with antique sofas and chairs.
There are stunning views from that area. I was really there to try a micro brewery off the little main square ( I am a bit of a beer hunter) but enjoyed the chateau.
I took the train and the station is a bit of a walk from the old town (20minutes or so), Not sure where the bus gets you too so worth checking.i enjoyed the walk as it takes you through a very nice park area but much of the walk was through the uninspiring modern part of the town. There is not a huge amount of things to do but certainly a few hours would be fun especially if you can do a Chateau tour and wine tasting but book that before you go
Been there several times.. also you can travel by train.
The other interesting thing is that two of the main waterways create a confluence at Melnik.
A sidenote.. JUNE 21.. there is a boat cruise from Prague to Melnik..it is about a 6hour ordeal.. I did it one way going and took the train back. https://www.praguesteamboats.com/cruise-to-melnik
