Hoping I might be able to get some advice. Our family of five (2 adults 3 kids ages 10-15) will be travelling from Cesky Krumlov to Budapest next summer. We'll have a private driver. I believe its a 6 hour drive so we can add another 5 hours or so by making stops along the way.
We don't plan to drive through Austria. We'll spend time there in a few years. I'm wondering the best locations to stop. We won't really be entering any castles or museums en route. I'm thinking nice countryside, nice villages, a good place for lunch, maybe a short village walk. A place to get out and stretch our legs, eat and experience a little bit of not so touristy areas. Initially I was thinking of Bratislava but the more I've read, the more I'm wondering whether it would be nicer to stop in a few Czech villages en route (we'll be doing a few daytrips from Budapest around the Danube Bend). I was thinking Trebon, Telc, and/or Ledvice. I've also heard about Mikulov. We wouldn't do any wine tasting though.
Would you recommend:
1. Bratislava? or
2. Trebon, Telc , Ledvice and/or Mikulov?
If the latter, which villages do you recommend and how long would you stay in each to have a nice visit?
I'd love any advice. I'm also open to other suggestions (that said, I've posted on other forums and I've been told to drop CK, stay in Prague and a few other options.... not really what I was looking for :-) We really do want to stop SOMEWHERE en route. The question is where....)
Thanks!
