I'll be spending one week in Prague in June. I'm planning on renting an apartment and would love your suggestions about where to stay. I'd prefer to be in the center part of town, near public transportation, hopefully in a neighborhood that feels more local and less touristy. Thanks for your help!!
I would suggest neighborhood Vinohrady (Vineyards) or Nove Mesto (New Town). Stare Mesto (Old Town) and Mala Strana (Little Quarters) are medieval neighborhoods where locals are in minority and tourists in majority.
I can't disagree with IIja's recommendations.
certainly Vinohrady has the feel you are looking for and also like all areas of Prague great transport links. There are often small markets on at various times of the week and numerous good bars and restaurants, the great Beer garden in Riegrovy Sady is an easy walk and well worth visiting in the good weather.
When I am in Prague I stay in the Dejvice area which I really like because of the great bars and the ease of transport, plus I have friends living in the area.
Dejvice, as Unclegus says, is also nice but little farther from the center, not exactly walking distance. It does not take long to get to the center by metro. If you are into pub culture then Zizkov. The most pubs per square mile anywhere.
Thanks guys for your help!! I booked an apartment in Vinohrady near Namesti Miru. I can't wait to visit Prague!!
I am looking for two studios or 1 bedrooms in the same building for a week in August. Any suggestions on apartment agencies as I have not had much success on airbb and other common sites. Thanks
Hey Renee in Tacoma,
We rented from Arcadia Old Town Apartments. They'll have units in the same building. Awesome company, beautiful apartments and well-priced. http://www.arcadiaresidence.com/?lang=en
