Thanks in advance. I will be staying at Apartments Jakubska and want to take the tram to the Castle. Where do we catch the tram?
Looks like your best bet is to catch the 15 tram at Namesti Repubiky to Malostranska and change to the 22 tram there.
Hi from Wisconsin,
Prague is an old city. The streets are laid out like wet noddles. Pay close attention to each intersection.
I am assuming your apartment is near Namesti Republiky.
The nearest #22 tram stop to you is probably Narodni trida. You will need to purchase a tram ticket, might as well get a handful of them. Where to buy? A tobak shop. Hop on, you will cross the Vlatava River almost immediately and then once you start going UP hill you will be near the castle. This is a real castle where there is a large fortified wall surrounding a substantial piece of land that contains St Vitus Cathedral along with government buildings.
If you are at Namesti Republicky the easiest way to the castle is Tram 8. It will drop you at the 'back door' of the castle. Make sure you which stop to get off at. You walk up an inclined sidewalk and through a castle wall gateway. Shazam, you are there. I looked and you can get on at Namesti Republicky (the tram stop is on the street Na Porici near the narodni informacni centrum) and get off at the seventh stop, the 5th is Letenske Namesti, 6th is Sparta, 7th is Hradcanska (hrad means castle) seems as though you are in the middle of a traffic cloverleaf.
Here is another way to feel comfortable once you board the #8. Once you get on the #8, it too crosses the river very soon, then swings to the right, swings to the left, and then goes UP hill, to Letenske Narodni, which is a nice commercial district (no tourists, but several museums)
Czech people are reserved. You might feel as though you are being ignored. They will leave you alone. But if you need help, just ask and they are friendly as anyone you have ever met.

You didn’t ask, but we just did tap and pay on board the tram itself for our tickets.
Is the tap and pay a new thing? I thought you bought tickets or a card at tobacco shops or kiosks.
Just a note for anybody using "tap and pay" on the trams. There might only be one Orange ticket dispenser box so on a crowded tram you might have to look for it. When you use it, first touch the screen and select the ticket you want. When you get the payment symbol hold your card against the box until the ticket pops out underneath. If you just put your card on the box and pull it away too soon the process fails and you may find a "red screen of death" while the box resets itself. Once you have this ticket you do not need to separately validate as it already has a date/time stamp on it.
Hello from Wisconsin,
Tap rides sound really great, except on crowded cars. Remember to enter at the front and exit out the back. It would not hurt to have a Tobak paper ticket or two in your pocket/billfold just in case not all trams are equipped with tap and wait for ticket. or you can't get to the device. If you don't use the paper ticket you can gift it, or consider it a donation to a great transport system in a great city.

Jason’s explanation is great for the tram system (better than my memory could supply). We found it easy and efficient.
