Where can I stay ?

Hello,

Traveling to Prague for 3 nights, and deciding between which side of river we should stay. Please suggest based on my preferences.
I will be with toddler. I am photographer, so I will be looking for some famous spots to photograph. Also, I will utilize some of night also, to capture some good night-shots of castle, bridge, etc. We are fine with hotels, but if Airbnb is there, we would prefer.
Can I get some suggestions, which side of bridge or which area, I should search accomodations ?

Thanks

In Germany (where I speak enough of the language), I eschew guidebooks, booking websites, etc, and prefer to find my accommodations from town websites, but when I went to Prague (with which I am not so comfortable) a few years ago, I was getting mixed signals between what looked good to me and what TripAdvisor said, so I fell back to Rick's recommendation. I picked Guest House Lida from his guidebook and was 100% satisfied with his recommendation.

Lida is a little south of town, but easy to get to via the Metro and streetcars. Jan, one of the brothers who runs Lida, is enthusiastic about his town and spent probably half an hour when I got there orienting me as to what to see and how to get there.

Thanks for suggestion.

Guest House Lida is around 5 KM from Charles Bridge, though is not my only destination to cover. I was thinking, would it better idea to stay near to main attractions, so that I can reach at spots, even with walk in late evening ?

Just trying to understand better reasons to stay far from main attractions.

Regardless of where you end up staying, set your expectations appropriately for photos of well-known places.

Short version: it's difficult to get shots of those popular places without many people in them, even at odd hours.

Longer version: here's how I described my experience in Prague.

It's still a lovely city and worth visiting.

I like Mala Strana (west bank of the river) - very centrally located. Prague is compact, and it's easy to get around to the best spots, no matter which side of the river you stay on. I've taken lots of night photos there.

Try to get up early one morning and photograph the Charles Bridge at daybreak - I've seen some pretty morning skies there, and you won't find many other people on the bridge at that hour (except for other photogrpahers).

Also, around 31-August, do we need AC or it should be moderate weather ?

If you would consider a B&B you could look at Dům u velké boty or House at the Big Boot. In Mala Strana, about 10 minutes walk to Charles Bridge or the Castle. Historic building, secure and safe area (the German embassy is across the square), nice breakfast and very friendly and helpful hosts. It was a few years ago, but we very much enjoyed our stay of several days. Safe travels.

I’m sorry but I couldn’t say. Our visit was the first week of May.
