Weather Prague / Vienna / Budapest

All,

Am planning to visit Prague, Vienna and Budapest for 10 days starting from mid of November. I am a solo traveler, writing to get suggestions about weather/day light and where to stay ( prefer hostel) ..

With only 10 days, you might do better to pick two. I would choose Vienna and Budapest. I stay at K&T Boardinghouse in Vienna--50 ft. from a Metro entrance and 5 minutes (2 stops) from the center city. It is in a very busy, safe neighborhood. See ktboardinghouse.at
In Budapest, we last stayed at Paty's Place, which can be Googled. It is in a great location and neighborhood. It is on a ground floor and is around $65 per night.

I visited Prague, Vienna, and Budapest in nine nights / ten days some years ago. I arrived in Prague without a fixed agenda other than ending in Budapest so I could choose how much time to stay where. I wound up staying four nights in Prague, two in Vienna, and three in Budapest. This turned out to be about right for me, given my interests. Yours may differ from mine. (I'm not a museum buff for example.)

I loved Prague - enough to visit again a few years after my first visit. It's a charming, compact walking town - more about the atmosphere and less about specific sites in my opinion, though there are plenty of sites and some museums. Prague has become very touristy now so November might not be a bad time to visit - most likely fewer tourists than high season or shoulder season.

In Prague, I would stay in or near the old town (east side of the river) or Mala Strana (west side). I can't recommend a speicifc place, but I'd recommend searching on Booking.com using their map feature. They include hostels and apartments, not just hotels. I'd stay fairly close to the river, within 1/2 km or so (which would include the old town).

I found Vienna pleasant but otherwise not exciting. I'm not a big classical music buff, so the musical side of Vienna held little interest for me. I well understand that some people love Vienna - I just didn't, maybe you will and would want more time than two days.

Budapest I would call intriguing and interesting more than charming. It's a huge city and very spread out. There is a lot to see.

All of these cities have excellent public transportation systems.

I am here now in budapest and weather is supposed to be similar to chicago illinois at this time. - so far it is better. I wear pants and a top with sweater and medium weight coat - so far no gloves or hat needed.
