I plan to do a day trip from Vienna to Prague. I looked into a guided tour from Vienna, but because getting to Prague is simple by train, I might as well go without a guided tour. I read Rick's books regarding Prague, and he says that taxis at the main train station will likely rip you off. Because of that, I am considering just walking from the main train station to Old Town. If I was by myself, that would not be a concern. But with 2 young kids, a small walk may turn into a very LONG walk. So being that I plan to make it a day trip, I will likely only have about 5 hours in Prague. (I did Prague before, so I will focus only on Old Town with my family).
Does anyone have any advice regarding an "honest" taxi service, or at least minimize the chance of being ripped off? Or should I just walk it? How many miles/minutes is it from the main train station to Old Town?
Please advise.
