Hi, my husband and I, 77 and 76, are on the tuscany tour beginning 10/31. We booked flights arriving in Prague on 10/26 and the following itinerary are what I need help with. We've traveled throughout Italy many times, but have never been to Prague or Vienna and hope we can do both before our tour starts:
Day 1 -10/26- arrive and sleep in Prague
day 2 -10/27 - sleep in Prague
day 3 - 10/28 train to Vienna, sleep in Vienna
day 4 - 10/29 - sleep in Vienna
day 5 10/30 - fly from Vienna to Florence
day 6 -10/30 - sleep in florence
day 7 - 10/31 tour starts
11/11 - tour ends
11/11 - 11/16 - train to rome and fly home from rome 11/16
We are comfortable taking trains, but have given up driving in Europe.
What I need to know is having only two nights in Vienna and Prague is too brief, so should I skip Vienna and just train slowly down to florence? I believe the night train from Vienna to Florence has changed its time to midday. Thank so much.
Hey! I’m also on that tour. I love Vienna but 2 days is not enough. Same for Prague. Overnight trains can be very uncomfortable and sleep is often interrupted. My choice would be to spend more time in Prague and then fly to Florence on the 29th. The tour is in Florence only for a day and a half and there is sooo much to see there that you might want the additional day. This will be my fourth visit to Florence and I’m arriving on the 29th.
You might consider easy day trips to Pisa or San Gimignano if you arrive early. Easy bus or train connections from Florence. See you in September!
