I will be traveling alone from viking danube cruise in passau to prague in early may 2017. I would like suggestions as to the safest, quickest means. Thanks!
Easy, (and safe) would be train to Linz, then change to train to Prague. Leave 10:40 am and get to Prague at 3:57 pm costing 71.60 EUR.

this company does transfers from the Cruise to Prague , actually run by an American and his Czech Wife. expensive for one person but perhaps you could contact others on the cruise that may be looking to share a transfer.
just notice you are saying May 2017 I presume you mean 2018

Alternatively, you could take a train to Regensburg and change there to the ALEX train to Prague - same travel time (5:17). Buy tickets in the E-Shop of Czech Railways (ca. €65), which is always cheaper than buyinng at the web site of the Deutsche Bahn.
The most scenic route, however, would be via Bayrisch Eisenstein / Železná Ruda and takes 1.5 hours longer. The line meanders through the Bavarian and Bohemian forest and meets the main line only at Plzn (ca. €47). Transfers at Plattling and Bayrisch Eisenstein (border station).
Besides the train there is one direct afternoon bus per day (run by the well known Czech company Student Agency), which takes approx. 4 hours. Prices can be very low - for October they start at €14.90
Yes, I did mean may 2018. Thank you for suggestions. I am also concerned about dealing with my bags.
