My daughter is going to Czech from Canada. Someone told her that a travel medical insurance policy is needed. I have a Emergency travel group coverage, and she is my dependent. Is this enough?
I don't know , but she should be able to prove that she is covered for any medical emergencies, never heard of anyone having to prove they have insurance but yes it is a requirement.
Thanks Unclegus.
While there have been no reports of any immigration officer asking for proof, There are both Czech and EU regulations that require visitors to have travel insurance that covers medical emergencies.
Regardless of whether its required or not it's smart to have some sort of insurance. For example, should you suffer a severe leg or hip break, the cost of getting you home to recuperate in special airplane seats can cost in excess of $100,000.
Our healthcare system is socialised (one of the positive legacies of Socialism) so in the case that anything happens her, she is be treated almost free of charge by the Czech system - (there is a 500czk fee for foreign nationals who don't have Czech health insurance; EU citizens are treated free of charge, once they should their EU health card). I handover 6% of my income to cover health insurance, to make sure that everyone gets covered. It's like paying a membership fee to be part of Czech society.
