Looking for the best train to take from Prague to Vienna on Sept. 25th. There are six of us, seniors
You can see the options at www.oebb.at and www.cd.cz
In my experience, ordering through cd.cz tends to be less expensive. Also, you get free seat reservations, which I highly recommend.
I put in the website an 8:45 departure with no transfers. The ticket works out to around $10-15 each for seniors.
However, the website will only let you purchase five tickets at a time. So options might be that each person/couple purchases after coordinating which car/seats you'd like. (Might be time for a conference call if you are not all together??)
Another option is CK Shuttle - an 8 passenger van you can book online. (ckshuttle.cz) In May we took it from Vienna to Prague. (with a stop in Cesky Krumlov.) The cost is more than the train but so convenient and a great way to see the country. Professional drivers, bottled water, and rest stops. Door to door or non door to door options. Great option for seniors. Company is highly recommended.
Good to use CD to book if you are going from Prague as you can use the station ticket offices to make changes if required. If you use OEBB you have to do it all online.
I would check www.oebb.at and www.cd.cz and compare prices. Both will sell you a seat assignment and yes, thats a good idea. For the same or just a little savings I would use the Czech site because its the origination location and if there are any problems with the ticket thats easier. But for 10 euro savings I use the cheapest.
RegioJet has a good reputation. Check which train station they use. Not always the main city station. Dont know about Vienna and Prague.
CK or Bean Shuttle. Great idea if you have a couple extra days to stop in Cesky Krumlov or someplace else.
