Train or bus from Prague to Cesky Krumlov

The RS guidebook advises that you can get from Prague to Cesky Krumlov by bus or train. It says the bus is cheaper and faster. My question is: does anybody know which mode is the more scenic, bus or train? Thanks, Hank Novato CA

You can go to C/K by a regular scheduled bus.
Many go throughout the region by shuttle buses, and there are a number of them operating out of Cesky Krumlov at very reasonable prices. You can Google them or find them on tourist websites. The shuttle services also haul people over to Vienna, Budapest and Salzburg.

Hey Hank I read your question and thanks because I'd like to know the same thing :

I haven't gone by train, but what we did was book a shuttle. (We used Lobo Shuttle and stayed at Pension Lobo in CK). We booked a private shuttle so that we could make a couple of scenic stops on the way to CK. We stopped at Castle Hluboka (a pretty, little, fairy-tale castle) and Divci Kamen (a 14th C castle ruin). It was a great day, and we loved it.

Anyway, a shuttle is another option. There are several, besides Lobo Shuttle.

They are both scenic but train is even more scenic than bus. When taking a train you have to change in Ceske Budejovice. No big deal. Train station in Cesky Krumlov is farther away from the center than bus station. If you have heavy luggage I would recommend taxi. When I took it few years ago it was about five bucks.

The train is by far more scenic, but is a bit more awkward.

They've just upgraded the track between Prague and Ceske Budejovice, so you can get to Budejovice in two hours by comfortable intercity train. Then the fun starts. You transfer into a smaller train, which plies its way on a small single-line track across fields and through forests to get to Krumlov. It is very rural and idyllic, but speed is not of the essence. The station in Krumlov is located at the top of the town, and is about 15 minutes walk from the historic centre.

Getting to Krumlov by train is a bit of an adventure, which is nice, if that is what you're looking for.

Thank you to all who responded. We may wait until it's time to leave Prague to decide which mode we are up for. Hank, Novato CA

@carol: shuttle is maybe easier but certainly not cheaper than train or bus. Actually it is more than 4 times more expensive.

If you do decide to go by scheduled bus it is better to pick it up at Andel (where there is a metro station) than the bus station. When we did it the first 30 minutes of the trip were crawling through traffic from the bus station to Andel :-)

From 6 am to 9 pm there is Student Agency bus lately called Regio Jet (also Yellow bus - it is indeed yellow) going every hour from Prague to Cesky Krumlov. Bus goes from the bus station Na Knizeci which is metro station Andel. Bus does not start at UAN Florenc (Central Bus Station). Once a day there is bus Leo Express which starts in Florenc and stops at Main Train station but does not go to Na Knizeci. I never took Leo Express but Student Agency bus is very good with bathroom on board, TV, newspapers, beverages, snacks.
