Train from Salzburg to Prague

Hi,
I booked a train from Salzburg Hbf - Linz Hbf - Praha hl.n. in October.
The seat is reserved from Salzburg to Linz but not from Linz to Praha, and the ÖBB app doesn’t seem to allow reservation.
According to chat GBT, “The Linz → Prague EuroCity segment is operated by Czech Railways (ČD), and seat inventory is controlled by their reservation”and the particular train doesn’t allow reservation.

I am concerned about not reserving seats in advance and was wondering how your train experience was from Austria to Prague related to this. Thanks in advance!

well ChatGPT is wrong - again! It is definately possible to reserve on the EC train that leaves Linz just before noon, using the Czech website you can even select seats - the ÖBB website allows it but not against a seating plan. How far in advance you can reserve might be a problem. Whether you would need a reservation in October is questionable, unless you have 1st class tickets because there is only a small amount of 1st class.

me.crewe , wouldn't the OP need to have purchased the tickets through CD to select the seat reservations? Once purchased by OBB the reserved seats can't be selected? At least, that has been my experience in the past.

both websites ( I can't say what happens in the phone App....) are offering reservations without having to buy the ticket at the same time. ÖBB have long been known for this, they are very useful for Eurail pass holders etc and can even issue reservations on some journeys they have nothing to do with!

The process for reaching the option can be a little clunky, you normally start with a jouney enquiry that offers a ticket price, but continue with that and it lets you drop the ticket and just select reservation. The DB system (which I didn't try for this journey) lets you select reservation only before making the enquiry.

Thanks everyone.
I tries again and I am able to make the reservation but the seat assignment is random(including the table) in the first class seat despite specification. Anybody had this experience?
Well- I guess I will try to call OBB customer service or go to station when I am in Austria and see if I can change the seat in the first class to without tables or rear facing.
