Train from Prague to Vienna?

We are trying to book a train from Prague to Vienna and have been following the instructions on this site, but on the train sites we do not see how to book between countries only within Czech Republic or Austria. Help, please?

You can buy tickets at 3 sites as there are 2 train operators, Ceske Drahy/OEBB and Regiojet. Ceske Drahy is the Czech National Railroad and OEBB is the Austrian National Railroad. They jointly operate the trains. Regiojet is a private company that also operates trains between Prague and Vienna at a lower price for spur of the moment trips. Both train companies run at the same speed. OEBb/CD might be lower price for advance non-refundable tickets.

See this webpage: https://www.seat61.com/trains-and-routes/prague-to-vienna-by-train.htm#How_to_buy_tickets

He recommends https://www.trainline.eu/ or https://www.cd.cz/en/default.htm
The information he provides is usually the best.

  • What website were you using?
  • When were you trying to buy tickets for? They are only available 90 days out?
  • I just tried the CD (Czech) website for Praha hl.n. to Wien Hbf for a random date in June and got lots of trains listed.

I just bought tickets on trainline via seat.61.com for this same routing for my September trip. It was very straightforward. I also used the same website to purchase my Vienna to Budapest trip. Good luck!
