Train from Prague to Budapest with sightseeing stops

Hello! Traveling from Prague to Budapest August 2 with my 17-year-old daughter. We have been in both cities so would like to see some new towns along the way. A car hire is about $500, more than we want to spend. I know there are some good stops along the way but can’t quite figure it out. Can anyone give a detailed recommendation for a long day with one to three stops along the way? Thank you so very much!!

From Prague to Budapest is about 300 miles by car, and there are a number of road construction areas presently. Along the way are the cities of Brno, Bratislava and Gyor.
If you went by train, you'd have a stop in Vienna, and Bratislava is just 39 miles from Vienna.
And flying is just over an hour, and airfares on that route with budget air carriers is very inexpensive.

Hello from Wisconsin,

Oh, my. Yes. Prague to Brno where Gregor Mendel did his famius work on genetics using peas, and later bees. This is a really nice city. Deserves a couple days. By rail north of Brno is Olomouc. Now this is another great city, what sets it apart is that it is not fully gentrified. There are still people using a woven basket as they go shopping. A day or two. Chevk out the basilika a bus ride outside of town.

Then back to Brno to continue on the Brataslava. A couple days there and then on to Budapest and maybe Eger.

All inexpensive train rides of between 5 and 10 dollars. Learn how to navigate dbahn.com and buy tickets from loco2 or cd.cz.

Thank you for your inputs! We have decided to book this: Prague-Bratislava One-Way Sightseeing Day Tour
By: Sidetrips from Prague (through TripAdvisor). Only concern is that it can be canceled due to light bookings. Does anyone have experience with this?

Very reasonable price and we will stay one night in Bratislava before taking the train to Budapest the following day.
