Debating between flying from Amsterdam to Prague or going via train. In general, we prefer train travel. Any experience or advice on going by train?
There aren't any direct trains anymore. Trains with one connection in Berlin take more than 12 hours. There is a CNL night train from Oberhausen after a connecting train from Amsterdam. That one leaves Amsterdam at 6:35 pm and gets into Prague at 9:50 am the next day.
From Amsterdam? Without hesitation: fly. Several direct flights between Amsterdam and Prague.
Why don't you just fly on Czech Airlines or EasyJet over to Prague. Their flights will be fast and cheap. And getting to the Schiphol Airport just takes 10 minutes from the train station in Amsterdam.
It's about 550 miles between Amsterdam and Prague--too far for me on a train.
Hi,
Depending on how much time you have, I would rather catch that CNL night train in Düsseldorf Hbf instead of at Oberhausen. The problem is you have to get to Duisburg, ie, Amsterdam-Duisburg, which also requires a couple of transfers in the afternoon.
Another route is to do this route by day. Take the early Amsterdam-Frankfurt ICE direct, (I've done that), change in to DB bus or train to Prague. If you don't have the time, I would get to Oberhausen early, say 1.5 hrs prior to departure, just in cast the train is arriving late from Amsterdam.
6:35 pm from Amsterdam already has a 1 hr and 14 min connection time in Oberhausen.
