Tour Guide Recommendation for Jewish Quarter in Prague

We had planned to walk around the Jewish Quarter in Prague on our own, but now we’re thinking a guide may be very helpful. Could anyone suggest an English-speaking guide for a 2-hour or so walking tour? Thank you very much.

Jason from Living Prague is great! We did a Jewish Quarter and Old Town walking tour with him and learned so much. Very knowledgeable and personable. His website also has a lot of practical information about the city.

I didn't use a guide when I toured the Jewish Quarter in October 2022, but the information signs, placards and multimedia were thorough and well done. If you do take a tour and want to investigate something more thoroughly, you could go back. The information -- all of it in English and other prominent languages -- was exceptional in the Maisel, Klaus and Spanish synagogues. The beautiful Spanish Synagogue was the highlight. I learned why a synagogue in Prague is named Spanish.

Also, there were what appeared to be Jewish-owned shops on Siroka and other streets in the neighborhood. I saw some of the shopkeepers on the street, seemingly inviting people to peruse their wares. It was late in the day when I toured the quarter and had been up all day. I was tired and hungry and decided to go back to my hotel. Now I deeply regret not stopping. It would have been a chance to interact with local people.

If you're interested in Jewish history, I highly recommend reaching out to Jewish Prague Tours at www.jewish-prague-tours.com. I recently took two private tours with them: one in Prague's Jewish Quarter with Yvonne and another in the Terezin ghetto with Pavel Batel. Both Yvonne and Pavel are true experts in their fields and are very passionate about what they do.

I've traveled a lot, and I can honestly say that touring with this group was one of the best experiences of my life. At first, I thought about exploringJewish sites in Prague on my own, but friends who have previously done so warned me that some places, like the Medieval Jewish Cemetery, completely lack explanations. During our tour, Yvonne provided all the background information we needed.

I hope you have a great time in Prague!

I see both my name and Pavel Batel (and Yvonne) have come up on this thread. Pavel and Yvonne are experts on Jewish history in Prague. Ideally you would already need to have an understanding of Jewish culture and especially central European Jewish culture to get the full use of these guys especially for Terezin. So, just to be clear and honest, people that tour with me may not have knowledge of Jewish culture or any experience in central Europe so I offer an overview of the culture, main sites/characters and timeline of the main events but it's nowhere near the depth of knowledge offered by Pavel/Yvonne.

I would add my recommendation for Jason for Prague tours. He's solo, personable, very knowledgeable, and will design a tour to fit your interests, and any limitations you may have. We very much enjoyed our 2 days of touring with him
