The green garland pension

We've booked a stay at the green garland pension, I know it's recommend on this forum and in by RS. But I'm a little nervous that they don't require a credit card for booking a room, especially after having heard stories about overbooking of rooms( not here obviously!).
Is this a common practice at the smaller hotels/pensions? Hopefully, I'm worrying about nothing??!!

I remember that I booked there through Expedia.com and had no problems at all. Do you have a confirmation via internet or e-mail?

If you have a confirmation, then you're probably worrying about nothing. If you don't have a confirmation either from the hotel itself or from a booking agent, then email the hotel and request one. Once you have that I don't think there's anything to worry about. Overbooking hotel rooms in not common.

Yes, no credit card confirmation required at the Green Garland. I booked directly with the Green Garland. We visited about 5 years ago and got great off-season rates for a very large first floor above ground room (No lift). I did re-confirm a month or couple of weeks before arrival.

I also booked an airport arrival car service through the Pension. We had skis and they arranged for a van that could transport the 210 cm long ski box.

BTW the Green Garland is located at the end of a very narrow alleyway street and isn't well marked if you take a local bus into town and walk to the Pension.

I booked directly through email, got a confirmation from them. Actually 3 confirmations in all, because I kept waiting for a "voucher" which I thought would be a request for credit card information but was just a confirmation of room and payment details.

I guess I'm surprised that they don't require credit card information to book a stay, but it's reassuring that trust still exists, in fact that's what they wrote, that they believe I'd let them know"quickly " if there are any changes.
Thanks for everyone's responses, I've learned so much from all of you in the last couple of months.

How was you stay at the Grren Garland? We are staying there in October. Room on the first floor, too. Appreciate your input.

I missed this thread when it was new, but just to clarify: it's common for smaller places, throughout Europe, NOT to need a credit card to reserve a room, particularly if you indicate you're arriving early. So, the fact that a place doesn't require a credit card, by itself, is in no way any kind of problem. It's also common for places to take a credit card to guarantee a room, but for payment to only take cash (not sure of all the particulars, but I'm sure it has to do with fees). Again, these are just the ways business is done for some places, and while they're different from what is common in the US, they don't mean anything "bad" about a place in Europe.

...credit card to guarantee a room, but for payment to only take cash....
Green Garland was the reverse. They didn't require a credit card to reserve the room (only E-mail correspondence committing to visit) but took credit cards for payment. I understand that they would accept CZK cash.

We had a very large pleasant room, breakfast spread called a continental was far more substantial than a french bun, and location very central to tourist sights. And staff very helpful.

We stayed at the Green Garland last October. The room was very nice, the breakfast was better than continental, the owners were very helpful and pleasant and the location was excellent. There is no elevator but the common room on the 3rd floor was homey and we met several of our fellow guests there. I would stay there again. Enjoy Prague!

I stayed at the Green Garland about 5 years ago and loved the room, owners, breakfast, and location. There were lots of steps up to our room, and even steps in our room up to the bathroom (which was also in the room) but I didn't mind! I reserved directly through email, and it wasn't a problem not giving a credit card. I hope you enjoy your stay.

What the Green Garland does, ie, not using a credit to hold the room is typical of small hotels and Pensionen I have stayed at in Germany, maybe Central Europe too. You call up, ask whether on such and such dates a single or double is available, say how many nights you want and at what price per night, tell your name, obviously, the Reception says it is recorded...finished. They may ask roughly at what time they could expect your arrival, esp if there is no 24 hour reception.

No credit card is asked to hold the room, you have made your reservation over this phone conversation. With this method I have never had any mix up, complications, screw ups, etc upon arrival at a small hotel or Pension in Germany.
