The Bone Church

Has anyone been to the Bone Church (the Sedlec Ossuary) in Kunta Hora? If so, can you make recommendations about traveling there via train from Prague? Also, any other helpful information you can provide would be most appreciated. Thanks.

Yes, I have been there. I put it on my list to visit on my first visit to Prague in 2005 and regretted missing it, so when I went back (with a car) in 2012, I stopped in Kutna Hora on the way back to Prague.

The church is...smaller than I'd imagined. It's really interesting and unique, but to be honest, I was a bit underwhelmed. It's a lot of effort to get there just to see it. It's most certainly worth visiting if you are nearby or if you want to do a day trip to Kutna Hora itself and see the church also - but I personally don't think it's worth the effort to get out there just to see the bone church. If you have other things to see in Prague or other day trips, I wouldn't put this one near the top.

Looks like a 10-15 min walk from the train station in Kutna Hora.

I have been there several times last time about 2 years ago. Train from the main train station in Prague to Kutna Hora Hlavni. takes about an hour , you can walk to the bone church from there and there are directions ,actually used to be markers on the pavement(sidewalk) but not sure if they are still there, walk takes about 10 minutes but you can take a taxi which will be right outside the train station. The main town of Kutna Hora is about another 20-20 minutes walk but a mini bus runs from the Bone Church to adove st Barbora's Cathedral, but local taxis and buses available. we used the mini bus last time I was there but there was a group of 6 of us cost was only a few 100 kc for all of us.Lots to do in the main toen, The Italian court Building, silver mine and of course St barbora's catherdral. Good places to have a meal and a drink and some lovely views. b e aware that the Town is on a hill and there is a fair bit of walking up and down needed.

Ask for a ticket to Kutna Hora Město, not just Kutna Hora, as Kutna Hora train station is 2km from the town. Once you arrive in Kutna Hora, change over to the little yellow train that will be waiting at the other platform. This little train will ply its way up to the town. Get off at the first stop (Sedlac) and the ossuary is just at the end of the street.

N.B. This little train works like a bus on rails, so you may have to ring the bell to let the driver know you want to get off at Sedlec.

I would agree with Andrew’s assessment. We walked from the train about 10 minutes to the chapel. The chapel itself is quite small and doesn’t take much time at all. Honestly, maybe 15 minutes but only because I was determined after spending a couple of hours to get there. We walked into town...our mistake, a drab, uninteresting and long walk... and spent several hours walking around taking in the sights. Altogether, had we not had 6 nights in Prague, I would have been honked with my decision to take a day. It is easy, however, and a nice enough day trip when combined with attractive KH. Safe travels.

I did my military service in Kutna Hora and we used to go to the pub U krale Dacickeho. Excellent beer and they cooked very well, too. Late nineties it was remodeled and name shortened to Dacicky and I think that food is even tastier now. Recently I had a fantastic wild boar goulash there. IMHO the best restaurant in Kutna Hora and around.

I first went there about 10 years ago, always loved the beer and the food but my one complaint is that they serve gingerbread dumplings with several of the dishes and I just don't like gingerbread dumplings.
