I would like to go to terezin and do Rick Steves walking tour, how long does it take if I did everything? I am asking IA but it keeps telling me that leaving prague at around 8:30 am I would be back at around 6 pm in Prague, I think that's too much time, in reality, for someone that has gone there, what how long would it be to visit the place.
I toured Terezin a few months ago with Pavel Batel at Bat-El Tours.
He is truly an expert on Terezin and has written a few books on the subject. His tours are a maximum of about 8 people--that's all that can fit in his mini-van--and was worth every penny.
Book direct with them and they will pick you up from your hotel. So much easier than trying to do it by yourself. Terezin is spread out and not easy to get to by public transportation.
15 years ago I went on my own. I took a bus and got off at the fortress and spent about an hour there. They offered a guided tour which I skipped. The signage was enough for me to appreciate the sight. It was used mainly for political prisoners, many were executed there. It was not a way-station or concentration camp. Then I walked a few minutes to the town and spent several hours visiting the museums and having lunch before catching the bus back to Prague.
Another vote for Pavel Batel. His knowledge and ability as a guide are exceptional. Worth every cent! https://www.batel-jewish-tours.com/
Thank you All! I will check on Pavel website.
I went to Terezin back in early July. Buy a ticket on their website to secure your spot (I believe about $15 USD). Then take the bus from Prague, it'll cost you around $4 USD each way. 1 hour bus ride. I would plan on 4-5 hours if you just want to see the Small Fortress, if you want to visit the rest of the town, I would suggest 5-8 hours.
This website has GREAT details on how to get there and back.
