Telč

I am in early planning stages for a trip for 2019. Thinking of RSE tour Prague-Budapest.

Prior to the tour I would like to visit Telč. Can anyone offer any information regarding Telč, where to stay. Most importantly, how to get there and back from Prague.

After the tour thinking of visiting Cicmany in Slovakia. Any comments will be appreciated.

how to get there and back from Prague.

Train. Connections more or less every 2 hours with 1 or 2 changes along the way. Approximately 4 hour journey.

The website of the Czech Railways has a train planner.
Telč is a beauty, but if you find the journey too long, Tabor is an alternative. It's only 1,5 hrs from Prague on a direct train. Tabor is also a good base for České Budějovice (45 mins) and/or Český Krumlov (1,5 hrs).

tonfrom THANKS so much for the suggestion of Tabor. The photos look exactly like Telc, with maybe a little less water. This would definitely be an easier option. So many places to look forward to.

By the way: why a tour? This part of the world has an extensive railway network with cheap and reliable train services which will probably bring you nearly everywhere you want to go. Check connections and travelling times at this pan-European train planner.

Thanks for your question.
Simple answer: A tour suits me best.
Longer answer: I am a 52 year old female solo traveler. I have traveled a fair amount in my home country using planes and cars. I have been to Europe twice. The first trip was with CIE tours to Ireland. Tour made sense, first trip to Europe, not the best public transportation in Ireland. Second trip was to Scandinavia. Easy countries to visit, almost no language barrier. For this trip I chose a RSE tour. More independence, better guides. I spent an extra day and a half in the starting city of Stockholm (very easy to do of course). During the tour there was a lot of free time to fill, which was also easy for me to do. After the ending city of Bergen, I flew to Copenhagen and took a train to Ystad, Sweden to spend a few days. Then returned by train to Copenhagen to fly home. Everything went great, however, I had a lot of anxiety during the travel days. I am sure with more experience I will get more comfortable. During my American life I have almost no experience with a large bus or train station (even in English). The only disadvantage I found to the RSE tour was that I was physically exhausted after the trip. I also would have preferred a tad more free time and longer stays. (But then what would I have been willing to give up for the longer time in certain places?) After I was rested and reviewed my trip I found that the huge advantages of stress free travel with the amazing historical and cultural education I received from Asa, the tour guide, outweighs any disadvantage.

I am attempting more independent activities with every trip. But, I want the guides and company of the tour. For 2019, in addition to the tour I plan on visiting one Czech and one Slovak village. My husband's grandfather is from Cicmany. Then I plan to add a few days in Paris (first visit) before coming home. Who knows, maybe in 2020 I will go completely on my own.
