Taxis in Prague

Tip to any novice taking a cab: ALWAYS ask for estimate before jumping in a cab. ALWAYS!

Arrived in Peague central train station. Taxi was outside waiting, but when I asked for a fare estimate, he quoted me 35 Euros. I scoffed and walked away. He followed me asking what I wanted to pay.

We ended up taking the Metro for 24, 24 and 12 kronus (youth fare). Cost us all of 60 kronus, $2.50 USD, to buy a 30 minute ticket to get to our AirBandB.

Taxis are banditos! Used Uber last night for under $5 USD. (Please tip....they make next to nothing.)

Just my 2 cents. Taking Uber to airport when we leave. Estimate $15-17 USD fare.

the train station do have quite a few less scrupulous taxi drivers. personally I never use taxis in Prague as the public transport is so good but when loaded down with luggage sometime you have to, Fare Place taxis ranks are pretty good and if going from the airport or railway stations then try and book with some of the shuttle services or with your accommodation,

this link gives some good advice and links to the better taxi companies.
Michael I am glad you realised that the transport system is cheap and pretty easy to use,it really is the best way to get around the city. A 24 hr. ticket for buses, trams and metro is only 110kc and is a real bargain.
Hope you are enjoying your time in the city, just over 2 weeks till I am back in Prague.
