Suggestions Prague to Passau Germany

We are taking a Viking cruise in October. And want to spend 3 days in Prague before. Viking offers a extension, but they really don't offer much for quite a bit of money. They do offer transportation to Passau Germany,in that price. but I am wondering if anyone has ever taken a shuttle or had a driver take them from Prague to Passau? What is the cost? Any ideas? Thank you

If you're camparing public transport from Praha to Passau, you can get there in 6 hours with one connection at Nuernberg. The first half is by bus and the second by train. Prices range from 30 to 90 euros person, depending how soon you buy. Best rates go on sale through DB about 3 months in advance of the travel date. How to Look Up Train Schedules Online gives you the DB train schedule link and tips for using it.

We're doing the same thing in October before a Viking cruise. We decided to do it on our own and add an overnight stop in Cesky Krumlov on the way to Passau? There seems to be many ways to get to Cesky Krumlov: bus, train, shared or private shuttle. Going to Passau we will take a shuttle. If you put shuttle from Prague to Passau I think you will find several links with prices listed. When is your cruise? Another Pam

DB stands for Deutsche Bahn, or German Rail, the national rail company of Germany.

The non-stop Bahn IC bus is the fastest way to get to Nürnberg from Prague, but Nürnberg is so far to the north, that there are all-rail routes to Passau by regional trains that are almost as fast. With sufficient advance purchase, you can get non-refundable tickets by bus to Nürnberg and from there to Passau by ICE for as low as 29€/person (58€ for two). By using Czech Rail tickets to Pilsen for about 3,60€/person and a 2 person Bayern-Böhmen-Ticket (30,50€) from Pilsen to anywhere in Bavaria (like Passau), you can make the trip without the specific bus/train commitment for under 40€ for two. You have to purchase the Bayern-Böhmen-Ticket in advance from the Bahn Ticket Shop, but it is valid all day, not just for the specified train.

There are connections from Prague direct to Regensburg via Pilsen, then to Passau via Plattling (change) or Prague direct to Bayerische Eisenstein via Pilsen, then to Passau via Plattling (again change) in only 25 minutes longer that with the IC bus/ ICE via Nürnberg.

Hi Pam...we leave a week later...we almost booked your time slots but plane schedules and a previous commitment that we couldn't change put us back a week. Hope you've figured out your transportation to Passau...did you check out czshuttle.com? That looks like the easiest depending on when you're leaving. Where are you staying in Prague? Enjoy your adventure.

Oops...so use to everything being .com that the link should be czshuttle.cz. I think they have both shared and private transfers. I think you have to ask for a quote...I did for our trip. Pam

More suggestions please, I checked the cz shuttle and it appears there are options for Prague to Passau, they just don't offer the length of time it takes for the trip. will contact them. Can check in on ship at 3 pm. So probably need to allow some extra time.

My question is, is evening in Prague thurs, all day Friday, and until 1:00 sat. Enough time in Prague, then an afternoon and part of next day in cesky krumlov then on to Passau. Your itinery sounded interesting Pam. Just don't want to squeeze too much in and not get the best out of Prague. Also need to check how long it takes by shuttle to go to Passau from cesky krumlov. THank you all again for your information sharing info helps so much.

Can't really comment on time needed in Prague as this will be our first trip there. We are planning approximately the same amount of time. We plan on leaving Prague around 10am to go to Cesky Krumlov. We might stop at a castle on route for an hour, but want to get to Cesky Krumlov around 2-3. This should give us a few hours to walk around and see a few sights. We were told the trip from Cesky Krumlov to the Viking Dock in Passau should take about two hours. We plan to visit the castle in Cesky Krumlov after breakfast for a couple of hours before leaving around 12:30-1:00 for Passau. Were you also told that the Viking ship could possibly be tied up at one of two different docks and not dismiss your transport until your sure you're at the right place? Just saw the Rick Steves video that showed a clip of Cesky Krumlov and it looks like a lovely place to see a little of the Czech countryside.

Thank you for your additional info Pam. Good to know about the different docks and to make sure you are at the correct one before letting transport leave. I was not aware of that. Thank you all again for the valuable info. Pam

Your welcome...not sure if that info is relevant to your cruise but good to know just in case. It looks like the two docks are some distance apart and might make for an unpleasant walk hauling luggage. Not sure if you'll have the ability to email while you're traveling but would love to receive any insights you gain during your trip as we'll be just a week behind you. I think you can email me directly from this site. Let me know what you decide on transport to Passau. We decided to stay at the Leonardo hotel in Cesky Krumlov. Just a quick look around but nice to see a somewhat smaller, more rural Czech town. Wishing you good weather and a fantastic cruise...the other Pam
