Smaller Town Weekend Trip from Prague (no car)

Hello,
I'm planning to spend 8 days in the Czech Republic in early May, with the hope of spending the weekdays in Prague and the weekend (2 nights) in a smaller town accessible by public transit. I will be traveling alone and will not be renting a car or bike, so accessibility is an important factor. I'm interested in art, architecture, food and wine, antiques/history, and/or natural beauty; but this portion of my trip would be focused on relaxing and enjoying being in a beautiful place. I'd like to visit a historic, smaller town with well-preserved architecture and nice scenery, and ideally would prefer somewhere not overwhelmingly crowded (Cesky Krumlov, for example, looks lovely but I am concerned about the crowds). I'm looking into Mikulov, as I would love to visit the wine region, but worry about being able to get around. Does anyone have recommendations for Mikulov- how to navigate, things to do including wineries? Or other small towns that may be a good option ? Thank you!

Try Olomouc in the east of the country. It a 2.5 hour direct train trip from Prague. Historic town (small city). Lots of things to do in the centre and there's lakes, swimming and forest hiking a local bus ride away.

Tábor was delightful. Very walkable and easy to access from Prague by train. It had a nice variety of shops and restaurants, beautiful architecture, interesting medieval history, and lovely nature. I spent a leisurely weekend wandering around the old town and surrounding wooded trails, which was a perfect follow-up to a busy week in Prague. Tábor would be a reasonable day trip from Prague, but I would recommend an overnight stay.

Thanks for returning to let us know how things worked out for you. I did a day trip from Prague to Tabor for Taborite history and liked the town quite a bit. I can see how it would be a nice place to spend the night. Jan Žižka... a warrior's warrior.
