Slav Epic Questions

I am excited to return to Prague and Czechia in the fall. I missed the Slav Epic on my last trip and don’t want to miss it again. I am researching for the trip and am curious why so few Czech brochures and travel sites mention the Slav Epic as something to visit. I realize it is off the beaten path, but isn’t the work something of Czech pride and renown?

Also, I will be in Vienna at the end of my trip (not coming from Prague) and it seems it would be better to visit it from Vienna as it is closer. Has anyone had experience visiting Moravsky Krumlov from Vienna?

I can't figure out the issue either, but it has had controversy for a long time. Prague wanted it, but couldn't find adequate space...and the panels are huge.
I haven't seen the original but was at a Mucha Foundation exhibit in Madrid in 2017. There, they had a long video where they focused in on a section of the canvas and explained the story. I appreciated that, as I could focus on the detail around the story and not be overwhelmed by all the rest of it.
I suspect that unless you are Hungarian, it doesn't mean a whole lot to tourists who can't wade through complex Hungarian history. I also suspect it didn't have enough draw in Prague to pay the rental space. I also got the feeling at the exhibit that the Foundation likes to have a lot of control, so not sure if that has made it more difficult.
As to country pride, I think it was inaccessible to most for a long time, and they had current issues that demaned more attention. The Magyars are a complex lot, but I wonder who the current Czechs identify with now?

I think that the brochures don't want to take a chance of going out of date because the collection often gets split up and sent to other locations and countries for temporary exhibition. The Slav Epic is a celebration of the entire history of the Slavs using events and characters that have historical, political or religious significance. Although they represent a continuous timeline of history the 20 paintings were not painted in numerical order. The City of Prague was given the Slav Epic "on condition" that they built a place dedicated to showing it. That did not and apparently will not happen. It's actually pretty simple to get here from Vienna, takes about 90 minutes (stop in Znojmo for a break if you need to) but just be aware that when hiring a car in Vienna you have to tell them your intention is to take it into the Czech Republic because this affects the insurance. Definitely do your homework before you visit the collection (which has never been shown in it's entirety outside of Czech).

Thanks Jason and Maria - I appreciate your perspectives and insight. I will try to visit Moravsky Krumlov as a side trip from Vienna and will keep Znojmo in mind!
