Shopping in Prague

Hi. Sorry for spamming. I have posted this query earlier in Spain forum. And now due to probable changes in plan I am posting this in Czech Forum.

So do you think shopping around in Prague is a good idea? (as compared to Barcelona). Basically I am looking for Inexpensive and fairly good quality items like:

1) Clothes- Leather coats/over coats/ stockings, scarves, blouses or any fashion items for women (ofcourse non branded)
2) Toys- for a 2 year old toddler
3) Any souvenirs

If yes, please suggest any lanes/markets/streets as well.

Thanks a lot ! You guys have been of immense help for me.

forget about shopping for clothes , not the best place or best prices for that.
Toys, lots of wooden toys around and there is a Hamley's in Prague just off Wenseslas Square. You will see a few places around the tourists streets specialising in wooden toys.

this link will help with markets.
There are Saturday markets on In Dejvice and Naplavka (down by the river.)
Dejvice one is a real farmer market selling all types of produce as well as some hand made wooden items and things like baskets and other hand made goods.
Naplavka is more an ethnic market and mainly food but you can eat your way through all the different ethnic offerings from Prague.
There is also a market on at Namesti Republiky,I think it is only on a few days a week but several craft stalls there.
You will positively trip over souvineer shops there must be 1000's in the city.

  1. Prague is not a good place to buy clothes. We are largely restricted to the major chain stores whose prices are simply converted from EUR to CZK, making them very expensive.

  2. In terms of toys for a toddler, try a Fatra inflatable. They are a classic design from the 1960s. They are cool, they are unusual and they are local to Prague.

  3. In terms of unusual souvenirs, try the CRVK design shop in the shopping arcade at Wenceslaus Square 28. They have some pretty cool things, including a lot of stuff that has been upcycled - i.e. jewellery made from Nespresso pods and satchels made from car seat belts. Innovative and unusual, it is also worth a look.

Finally, I recommend that you pick up a copy of the Prague Superguide, which has a very good Design and Shopping section.

I hope that this helps.
