Ginger - From 60 - 65, a senior pays half price, from 65 - 70 it's free but you will need to apply for a Prague transport card, which will require 2 passport size photos, fill in an application form and pay 20 crowns.

You can get the card in any PIT information center.

PS if you apply for senior ID card for 60 - 70, the card is valid for 5 years.

Another option you have is for the senior to show a valid U.S passport to the train conductor along with a Driver's License to ride free. The links have all the info.

I have the PID card , cost 20kc and you only need one recent passport type photo, available at the stand at the airport.I have one for 60-65 age group and pay 130kc for a months travel .I am in Prague several times a year and usually for at least 7 days at a time
if you are only going to be in Prague for a couple of days you might not even need to use the public transport and a standard 24hr ticket is only 110kc, so my advice is that if you are only visiting for a couple of days just pay the money for standard tickets but if staying for a week or more than get the PID card.

RJean thanks for the links and additional info.

Gus, we will be there for a week. Should my aunt and uncle take a passport photo from home?

He’s almost 67. The other member is 64.

really depends on what you are going to be doing, I stay in the Dejvicka area of the city when I am there and travel around the city quite a lot.If you are just doing the local sights in the main tourist areas and are also staying in that area then you won't use the transportation much. The PID card is a nice souvineer though and will only take a few minutes to process at the airport.as I have said 20kc each for the card and the older person travels free, the other will need to ask for a monthly pass and that last time I bought one in August cost 130kc.For a week I would say that it probably is worth it , for me it certainly is but I do travel around the city a fair bit.
I am back in Prague on the 17th of January, going to see the ice hockey at Kladno the team the famous Jaromir Jagr now runs.

yes take a passport photo from home as they actually use this in the card.Btw in the 3 years that I have had the PID card and at least 10 trips to the city since then I have never been asked to show the card.

I don't know where this "driver's licence is ok for ID" is coming from but it is wrong. Non EU citizens either have to have a valid EU Resident permit, passport or other officially recognised document (National ID card) to prove age. Why do I know this? because 1) I asked at the DPP ticket office and 2) double-checked that by asking one of the ticket inspectors that will fine you for not having a valid ticket. The other thing to note is when the year is mentioned then it assumes you have had that birthday so 60-64 gets discounted travel with PID, 65-69 is free with PID and 70+ is free with passport etc.
Hope that helps, I see people getting fined for this fairly regularly.
