Hi fellow travelers! We're headed to Prague next week for a few days. Any recommendations for good and reasonably priced restaurants? Also, where might we go for vodka sampling?
Thanks.
Joy
When we were in Prague we tired quickly of the
heavy dishes goulash, pork, sausages. Individually they tasted good but a steady diet of these types of foods lost their appeal soon.
Look at the Eating Out menu at Living Prague: https://livingprague.com/
Many descriptions of food and restaurants, and suggestions for food tours.
Jason's walking tours of the Old Town are excellent.
No need to confine yourself to traditional Czech cuisine - we found a cute French-inspired cafe and a modern Czech fusion restaurant just a block ot two from the main square.
https://rudolfjelinek.com/contact/slivovitz-museum-prague/, not vodka but traditional Czech spirit more like schnapps and tastes pretty damn good. not done the tour but have been in the very nice bar for a tasting session. where are you staying ?, might be able to suggest places nearby but most of my favourite spots are outside of the city centre
We’re staying at Courtyard Marriott Prague City which looks like it’s pretty far from most sites.
bit far out but right at Flora metro stop so very easy to get into the city from there in a few minutes,Huge shopping mall there.
https://www.vinohradskypivovar.cz/en/korunni/#food, this place is a micro brewery and about a 5 minute walk from your hotel, Modern place but with a old fashioned feel, great beer and very good food though tends to have a limited menu.https://www.letsmeat.cz/ this place is eaven closer, only ever been in for lunch which was good and they have a great selection of beers (why I visited)
lots of places around that area so look on google maps. The place I mentioned for spirit sampling in only 200 yards from Malostranska metro which is directly linked to Flora.
If you enjoy very good craft beer, I strongly recommend the Strahov Monastery Pivovar (beer garden) in the Castle District. The food we had there was also excellent.
We also really enjoyed the Olympia Restaurant in the Mala Strana, as they had a number of game dishes that one seldom encounters elsewhere. I believe there are several Olympia restaurants around the city.
I have to say that I found the food in Prague to be to my taste pretty completely in a way I haven't found elsewhere except in France. Lots of delicious food there. Full disclosure: I love spaetzel.
For the vodka you'll find most bars will carry at least six types like Absolut, Finlandia, Smirnoff etc. If you want a bigger choice then you'll have to go to a cocktail bar like Bugsys (Old Town) or Crazy Daisy (Karlin) which will have a lot more (like up to 20 types).
I was stunned by how incredible the food scene is in Prague! There are so many incredible places to eat and I definitely wouldn’t waste my time in any tourist traps serving the classic dishes. We took a food walking tour with Taste of Prague and they introduced us to some of the best food I’ve ever eaten. I recommend one of their walking food tours if you have time, but if not, check out their site for restaurant suggestions all over the city. https://www.tasteofprague.com/
To answer one of your questions
wow! clearly foursquare has gone downhill and whoever compiled that list has no local knowledge. Four Seasons and Cotto Crudo is the same place. Buschetto on Wenceslas? yuck. The only two on that list worth visiting just for vodka are Nota and Mosaic House.
