Is it difficult and/or expensive to rent a car one-way? We want to go from Prague to Koblenz Germany and don't know if we should arrange it from here (USA) or wait until we get there? Ia it difficult to cross the border and do we need anything besides our license and passport?
The problem would be picking up car in one country and dropping it off in another cuntry which means a large drop off fee. We were quoted 1000€ Extra from Portugal to Spain.
You can drop off card at Czech border and take a taxi across border to pick up a German car.
Call Autoeurope in Portland, ME to find out more. We always book our European rentals with them.
I'd take a train from Prague to Dresden and pick up a car there. Dresden's a treat to see as a city.
See AutoEurope.com. Most people carry an International Drivers License that's picked up at AAA. You will need a credit card to rent the car, however.
If you rent a car in Czech Republic and drop it in Koblenz, Germany, it will have to be transported back to the Czech Republic because they can't rent a car in Germany with Czech license plates. The cost of that would have to be born by you. I think you can imagine how much that would cost, plus the loss of available rental fees while it is in transit. So the idea of taking a train or bus to Germany and then renting a car there is the way to go.
