Rail stops between Dresden and Prague

A few years back my husband and I travelled from Berlin to Prague; after the train stopped in Dresden (a city we have visited since, beautiful!), and made its way over the Czech border, it stopped a few times along the way. there was one place in particular that was so beautiful I wanted to jump off the train. It was a small place, all I can remember is a picture-postcard setting of a stone bridge, a town and the mountains behind. I didn't write down the name of the place at the time, and while I have tried to find it using google maps and other sites since, this place has alluded me.

Has anyone done this trip and can provide some clues as to the name of this place. I'd really love to go back there.

If in Germany, probably Bad Schandau in the Saxon Switzerland.

Check out their tourist info website. Fabulous rock formations with a stone arch bridge connecting them. It is a national park.

Is this what you mean? You had me confused for a second because you can't see the Bastei bridge from the Bad Schandau Bahnhof. The Sachische Schweiz N.P. is a place well worth visiting. Actually, I found the nearby Königstein fortress far more interesting than the Bastei.

Hi,

I took this route Dresden to Prague as a day trip this past June. Did you take an EC train? I did, it was direct. Once over the border the train made two stops before arriving Prague. The first stop is Decin, which used to be called Tetschen, the 2nd stop was at a larger station called Usti nad Labem, which was the former Aussig. You know that the first towns before reaching Prague were part of the Sudentenland, just as if you had taken the route (by DB bus) from Nürnberg to Prague, with the first stop being Cheb, (just over the border), the former Eger of Egerland in the Sudetenland.

Having looked at the pics of all those towns (which all look like they would be worth visiting), I believe the place I am talking about is Bad Schandau. But thanks everyone, I have learned a lot about that area, I previously had no real idea about it.
