Can anyone recommend a transportation company for a private car from Prague to Vienna and/or Vienna to Budapest? We do not want to use trains. Thanks
While I’m sure there is a company that offers the service, it is an exceptionally rare request as everyone takes the modern and much faster train between these cities.
It is cheaper and faster by bus then train. I highly recomend you the company called studentagency
Train is faster now that these lines are served by Railjet trains.
There are a number of services. I generally start in Budapest so I'm not a good source for a start in Prague. Google "Prague Transfer Service" Come to think of it, Bean and CK Shuttle may have private transfers. Both have good reputations. Time allowing there are some facinating castles between Prague and Vienna. From Vienna to Budapest I would suggest http://www.silverwings.hu . I have known Laszlo for a number of years. He provides an exceptional service at decent prices and is very professional. We still hire him on occasions for special trips.
On the rail subject. From Vienna to Budapest the RailJets are not always faster than the EC service. The RailJet trains are a bit nicer though.
Unless you want to stop and sightsee on the way private car is waste of money. Railjet is cheaper, faster and more comfortable.
In 2014 we used Ck Shuttle first from Vienna to Cesky Krumloff and later from Cesky Krumlov to Prague with a lunch stop in Tabor.. They were comfortable, timely, and curtious, also very reasonably priced. I see on their website that they also serve Budapest.
Ilja is correct; unless you want to see the country between the two cities. From Prague to Budapest the view out the train window just isn't that great. Bring a book to read. On the other hand there are roads, towns and castles that a car will get you to that are incredibly worth the time. Why not rent and drive yourself? I would rather be watching the scenery than the road, international drop off charges can be nearly the cost of a driver, I don't want to screw with vignettes, drivers can know some interesting, roads, sights, villages, stops to eat, etc.
Two years ago I used Personal Prague Guides http://www.personalpragueguide.com/tours/europe_tours/europe_tours.php twice while in Prague, once for a city tour and a second day out into the countryside. My guide mentioned that she sometimes took people to Vienna and their website mentions a Vienna tour. I cannot say enough good about this company - they were excellent in all respects. So If you are trying to get from Prague to Vienna, talk to them about whether they can provide this service.
