pre buy tickets to the castle?

Hello everyone - we are going to be in Prague on July 21-22. Do we need to pre-buy tickets to the castle, or are they available same day?
Thanks so much for all of your invaluable information and help through these forums!

You might search a previous discussion about this a few months ago. My recollection is that it is not possible to pre-buy tickets to the castle. Biggest problem is waiting in the security line. If you enter through the Royal Gardens (north entrance), you will have a much shorter (or non-existent) line, based on our experience last month.

The site Marcus posted is good. If you don't speak Czech click on language and change it to English. Unfortunately not everything is translated. To spare you guessing - here is translation: Prazsky hrad = Prague Castle, okruh A = circuit A, rodinna vstupenka = family ticket, bezna vstupenka = common ticket (I think they mean a ticket for one person), letni oteviraci doba katedraly sv. Vita = summer opening times of St. Vitus Cathedral.

My experience from the last week is to come very early. Our guide (excellent both in English and Norwegian language) took us at the Castle at 8.45 as there are not so big lines (we did not wait) and as we had the licensed guide we did not wait neither for the tickets. We went to the Castle from "Hradcanske namesti".

We were there first week of May and did not buy tickets before hand. Here's my suggestion for the Lines....
Get to castle when they do the changing of the guard. May spectators will leave the line to take pictures. We walked right in!
