Pragues's Letna district

We had been looking around the Old Town area for our 5 night stay but found one interesting property in the Letna district. We'd love to hear impressions/experiences with that neighbor as a base.

Love it, I am in Prague several times a year and stay in the nearby Dejvice area. Brilliant area with easy access by tram to the city centre in a few minutes, metro stops nearby depending where you are staying, You can walk into the Old town from Letna through the park (perfectly safe BTW),numerous great bars and decent restaurants and cafes they even have an Amercian Hot Dog place in Letna. Huge park that has the biggest Beer garden in the City with stunning views over the Old town.
Let me know where you are hoping to stay and I will make more comments then, you can Private message me if you wish. Also let me know when you hope to visit as I can make suggestions to what might be going on. I am back in Prague in just over 4 weeks time so can go and check the actual property general area for you.

Go for it. Letna is a great area, and there is lots happening there (food, coffee, art) at the moment. It's very close to town; you can either walk in and out or take a tram. Also, the city is currently rebranding the whole Letna/Holesovice/Prague 7 area as the art district, due to the variety of galleries and art centres in the area. If you're here for five nights, I definitely recommend it, as you'll get more of a feel for what Prague is really like, outside of the Disneyland tourist centre.

I realize this is a little off topic but...
Our first day in Prague we waked to Letna District from Old Town and had a perfect day! The photo overlooking the city after a long trip from Seattle (serious jetlag) was so beautiful it was our Christmas card this year. We loved the whole area.

A bit other unsolicited advice...
If you go to Rigrosady Park be sure and have the burger of a lifetime at Dish.

And if you want to celebrate go to Hemingway's for a special drink. It's almost artistry. We went to celebrate a 30th anniversary and engagement.
Prague is amazing to explore outside of the traditional tourist spots. Part of the reason we were able to enjoy Prague and fall in love with the city and people was due to the advice of Unclegus off this forum. Thank you Unclegus for helping three couples from Seattle, WA enjoy Prague so much.

looks like a good enough place to stay, it really is the edge of the Letna and Holesovice areas but you are close to trams and can walk into the centre in about 15 minutes or so and trams will get you there in 5 minutes, a couple of tram stops up the hill will get you to Letna park but again easy to walk.loads of pubs restaurants and cafes in the area too.

this is one of my favourite places in the area, real old fashioned traditional bar/restaurant with great beer , traditional food in huge portions and amazing prices.
Reene mentions a park but it is Riegrovy sady (park) and a great place to vist I really love the beer garden there not got the views of Letna beer garden but has a brilliant atmosphere and a really great choice of beers.
Reene I am really pleased my advice helped you on your trip. I have been visiting Prague for around 25 years now and spend several weeks a year in the city and have two trips booked already for spring and summer though later in the year I am off to Dubrovnik for the first time.

Thanks all. I think we'll go with this place. CzechShuttle confirms that there are no problems with them for the pickup location. The travel in from the airport sounds 'interesting' (from the advice of the host, who said to avoid airport taxis) but we'll figure it out.

This makes 9 down and 2 to go (Cork, Ireland & Malta). Whew!

I've appreciated the responses to this topic as we have also chosen a Letna apartment for our week-long stay in Prague in May (first visit to the Czech Republic). Looks like our apartment is just a little bit west of where Keri's is.

Thanks for the pointer to the transportation from the airport. Our host gave two helpful (and really inexpensive!) options but for the sanity of our transfer the Prague Airport Shuttle looks like a much better option.

public transport is cheap and very easy once you have used it a few times but for anyone new to the city a private shuttle from the airport is the best option and cost is quite reasonable.

I use private shuttle or taxi only if I have heavy luggage. Public transport is very cheap, fast and easy. I rather use money for enjoyment of beer and other stuff.

iija, I do exactly the same or if I am travelling with others ,I use a shuttle service if I have an early flight out of Prague as I often do these days .The new metro interchange at Velselavin is a bit of a pain as there is no escalator all the way up to the bus stops for the airport bus (119) but I do believe they will be installing them next year some time.
